Santa Fe Sedation Dentist

Dental Care That Feels Different

Looking for a trusted sedation dentist in Santa Fe? Milagro Dental offers nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and The Wand® gentle anesthesia system to help patients feel calm, comfortable, and confident during treatment.

You shouldn’t have to be in pain
just to avoid being scared.

Dental anxiety is more common than most people admit. Maybe it started with a bad experience years ago. Maybe the sounds, the smells, or just the idea of someone working on your teeth is enough to make you reschedule, again. If that’s you, sedation dentistry at Milagro Dental was built with you in mind.

We offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation to help you stay calm, comfortable, and in control throughout your appointment. No white-knuckling it. No gripping the armrest. Just the care you need, in an environment that actually feels safe.

Sedation options at Milagro Dental

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas)

Nitrous oxide is inhaled through a small mask that rests gently over your nose. It takes effect within minutes, producing a relaxed, slightly euphoric feeling that fades just as quickly once the mask comes off. Most patients drive themselves home afterward. It’s a great option for mild to moderate anxiety, routine procedures, or anyone who wants to take the edge off without losing awareness.

Oral conscious sedation

Oral sedation involves taking a prescribed medication before your appointment. By the time you’re in the chair, you’ll feel deeply relaxed — present enough to respond to simple questions, but calm enough that many patients remember very little of the procedure afterward. You’ll need a driver home, and you’ll want to clear the rest of your day. The trade-off is worth it for patients with significant anxiety or those scheduled for longer treatment.

The Wand®, a different kind of anesthesia

Even the needle can be a barrier for some patients. That’s why we use The Wand®, a computer-controlled anesthesia delivery system that administers local anesthetic at a slow, steady rate. The result is a noticeably more comfortable numbing experience — something patients who’ve dreaded injections for years often comment on after their first visit.
Anxiety kept you away? We’ve heard that before. And we’ve helped plenty of patients just like you get back to feeling confident about their dental health. Call (505) 982-9222 to talk through your options.

Why sedation changes more than just how a visit feels

Dental anxiety isn’t just uncomfortable — it stops people from getting care they need. Infections go untreated. Small problems become expensive ones. Teeth that could have been saved are lost.
Sedation dentistry isn’t a luxury. It’s how some patients get access to dental care at all.
At Milagro Dental, sedation also means we can accomplish more in a single visit. For patients who need multiple procedures, or who tend to reschedule out of stress, completing more work in one calm appointment is genuinely better for their long-term health — and their schedule.

What sedation dentistry in Santa Fe
looks like at Milagro Dental

We start with a conversation

Before recommending anything, we talk. We want to know what specifically makes you anxious, what past experiences have shaped that, and what kind of appointment would actually feel manageable. This isn’t a checklist — it’s a real conversation.

We review your health history

Sedation is safe and widely used, and it’s also something we take seriously. We review your medical history, current medications, and any relevant health factors before recommending which option fits you.

The appointment itself

Whichever sedation option you choose, a team member will walk you through exactly what to expect. You’ll be monitored throughout the visit. The doctors and assistants at Milagro Dental know how to work with anxious patients — unhurried, communicative, and ready to pause if you need a moment.

After your visit

With nitrous oxide, you’ll likely feel back to normal within minutes. Oral sedation requires someone to drive you home, and we’ll send you with aftercare instructions and a follow-up check-in. We don’t just send you out the door and call it done.

Questions? We have answers

Who is sedation dentistry a good fit for?

K
L
Sedation dentistry works well for patients with dental anxiety or phobia, a strong gag reflex, difficulty sitting still for extended periods, or sensitivity to sounds and sensations in the dental chair. It’s also helpful for patients undergoing longer or more complex procedures.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

K
L
Yes. Both nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation have been used safely in dentistry for decades. We review your health history beforehand and monitor you throughout the appointment to make sure you’re comfortable and stable.

Will I be unconscious?

K
L
No. Both options we offer keep you conscious and able to respond to the dentist. You’ll feel deeply relaxed — and with oral sedation, may remember little of the visit — but you won’t be put under general anesthesia.

Do I need someone to drive me home?

K
L
With nitrous oxide, most patients are fine to drive afterward since the effects wear off quickly. With oral sedation, yes — you’ll need a driver and shouldn’t plan anything demanding for the rest of the day.

Can I use sedation for a routine cleaning?

K
L
Absolutely. If anxiety makes even a cleaning feel overwhelming, sedation is a completely reasonable option. We’d rather you get your preventive care in a way that feels manageable than avoid it entirely.

How do I know which sedation option is right for me?

K
L
That depends on your level of anxiety, the procedure you’re having, and your health history. The best way to figure it out is to call us and talk it through — (505) 982-9222. We’ll help you find what fits.

What is The Wand® and how is it different from a regular injection?

K
L
The Wand® is a computer-controlled anesthesia device that delivers local anesthetic at a consistent, controlled rate. Many patients find it significantly more comfortable than a traditional syringe — the slow, steady delivery is what makes the difference. It’s one of the reasons patients who’ve avoided the dentist for years because of needle fear often tell us their first visit here felt completely different.
